The Rules
En passant
The pawn capture you almost never see
The idea
When a pawn advances TWO squares from its starting rank, and lands beside an enemy pawn, that enemy pawn may capture it as if it had only moved one square. This must be done IMMEDIATELY — you lose the right on your next move. "En passant" means "in passing" in French. It exists so a pawn can't sneak past an opposing pawn's attack by jumping forward two.
