Hanging pieces
If it's free, take it
The idea
A hanging piece is one that's attacked and undefended — completely free to capture. The most common reason players blunder is missing a hanging piece on either side. Before every move, scan: which pieces are attacked? Which are defended? If your opponent has anything hanging, take it. If you're about to move into a hanging position, don't.
