Pins

Stuck and helpless

The idea

A pin is when a piece can't move because a more valuable piece sits behind it. Move the pinned piece and you'd expose the bigger one to capture. An ABSOLUTE pin pins a piece to the king — moving it would be illegal because it'd leave the king in check. A RELATIVE pin pins to a valuable piece — moving it would be costly but legal.
